Today I was out in the countryside driving around. The first photo’s from a cool, retro diner I stopped at for hotdogs and ice cream.

The second was taken outside this same diner, purely because I loved the old truck. It’s not a good photo but the truck’s awesome!

It’s also worth mentioning, while out I spotted this alarming sign:

I don’t even want to know what prizes they’re offering. My mind’s full of naked 80 year olds with their boobs and balls scraping the floor. Sorry were you eating?

Yes I finally acquired a shiny new camera for my bad deeds. Today’s my first day using it and I haven’t even figured out how the hell to use it properly yet. The following were done without aid of a macro purely because I couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. I’m not used to cameras with auto functions. I’m a technical camera retard! :)

Then I tested yet another flower.

So far, so good I guess. Now to work out macros and file sizes because I managed to make these 60 inches wide. Oops. :)

Today is a holiday so I was out driving in the South East portion of the province looking at the vast countryside. I didn’t get too many photos however, as we were in the car and I’m lazy.

People in Manitoba also love large things on plinths.

I tried to treat you all to a lovely view of the rather exciting signs welcoming you to Winnipeg, but moving at 100KMH means you get half a photo… Hmmm.

I make semi-precious jewelry and I’m always in love with the colours in beads made from natural gem stones.

The beads in this photo are all smaller than they look in the picture. All are 4mm and 6mm and I use them for charm chokers and bracelets.

On the final day of the trip it was time for some wild life documentation. No, not inebriated frat boys, CREATURES!

Once ice cream was demolished, we lay on the beach all afternoon and floated in the cool water. I love the sun on the water in the evening.

Tonight, while out grabbing supplies for a weekend camping trip, everything went from sunny to stormy in a nano-second. These storm clouds were hanging around to the west of the city, at sunset.

The second photo has no relation to anything. It was taken earlier in the afternoon and turned out exactly the way I wanted, regarding exposure and contrast and colour depth, except – it’s out of focus. My camera has a lot of in-camera funkiness you can use, and complete manual control regarding exposure/apertures/shutter speed, yet it only has automatic focus. Stupid idea. It couldn’t quite cope with the low light here.

That wraps up Thursday’s visual extravaganza type thing.

Sunday, July 19th, 2009 – Lazy Summer Colours (11/365)

Today was beautiful and I spent it at the beach trying not to turn lobster red. Despite all the right ingredients for some photo stuff, I didn’t take anything I loved apart from this first one. This is a road near the beach I often go to and I’ve always loved its minimalistic look. It’s just road, sky and grass. It’s so soothing. And don’t you think that one colour blue sky makes it look like a painting?

This is the beach where I floated all day long on giant inflatable chairs! Bliss.

On the drive home I was taken by this little church – not the church alone, the whole thing – the quaint white church, the yellow canola field behind it and the trees. The photo is a little disappointing and doesn’t do it justice.

That’s pretty much all I managed. Blame too much sun and water.

Today is beautiful out. Here are a few photos. The first is my good friend God’s eye. His eyes are hazel but this really pulls out the green. I love how you can see the parking lot in the background. You can almost see me but as my head’s in the pupil area I look like Darth Vader.

We were on our way to the park to hang out. Where I found this narly tree.

Friday, July 17, 2009 – It All Comes Back To Nature (9/365)

I’ve come to the conclusion while riding my bike around lately, that living in a somewhat industrial part of town, there’re very few things you can photograph in an artistic or indeed aesthetically pleasing fashion. It all comes back to skies and flowers in the end.

Here are some more of the same sort of flower with a little over-exposure goodness. I’m the queen of over exposure. And under. I just can’t let things be. It brings out the brightness though, in a pleasing manner.

While out on my daily bike ride I had to pause and take a picture of the sky. Makes me want to curl up in a cloud and go to sleep.

Today’s weather can only be described as a summer monsoon. Grey skies, thunderstorms, torrential rain – hardly a recipe to go out in your spare time and take pictures. Therefore, today had to be an indoor photography day.

Here’s the rain on the window by my desk this afternoon. It almost looks like little droplets of molten metal.

One thing to do when it’s horrible outside is find something appetizing to eat.

Lastly, continuing my fascination with drinks and their containers, one of my favourites – Stewart’s Key Lime Soda.

Today I haven’t had many photo taking opportunities, so I present a three photo mish mash of pictures I did manage, suggesting thirst might be on my mind.

My favourite thing about summer is the peacefulness of the deep blue skies. Today there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky. OK no thirst implied here but it’s a lovely colour, no?

After a quick bike ride round the ‘hood this afternoon, I needed this:

I messed around with the exposure to bleach out the sky. It looks sort of imposing! Well, as imposing as a soda can get, I guess.

Today I spent the day driving north to Hecla Island – a really pretty little area on Lake Winnipeg. While I got quite a few regular snaps of the area these were my four favourite pictures:

This next one is the side of an old Canadian Pacific train car in Riverton, Manitoba. I took a few of the car itself but I like this close-up of the weathered logo.

I needed some refreshment so we stopped in the picturesque little town of Gull Harbour, Manitoba:

Lastly, on the way home, I stopped for dinner here, a local drive through that hosted the biggest effing box of fries I’ve ever seen. You could’ve fit a small child in that box (almost):
